What are emergency funds?
Emergency funds are a special kind of savings account that you put aside for a rainy day. This may be a job loss, trip to the emergency room, or a car accident. The money is there for when you need it so just be sure to have a set of criteria for what an "emergency" actually is. You don't want to dip into that money for a new pair of jeans and then not have it if you have a surprise trip to the hospital.
